Half Moon Bay hosted Sequoia on Senior Day for The Cougars Tuesday afternoon. Half Moon Bay jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Jared Mettam hit a leadoff double, and later scored on Senior Jack Mettam’s double. Danny Guevara started and cruised through the first 3 innings. Sequoia was able to get on the board in the 4th, and again in the 5th to take a 4-1 lead. Dwyer Lewis entered in relief to calm things down. Senior Luke Outman led off the bottom of the 5th with a single, and scored on a Jared Mettam double. Senior Preston McAuley then drove in Mettam with an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 1. In the bottom of the 6th HMB would strike again. Coleman Colucci and Danny Guevara led off with singles, leading to Sequoia using a unique defensive alignment by moving the center fielder into the infield as David Fisher hit. Fisher hit a ball past the shortstop to score Colucci and Guevara got to third. Pinch Hitter Jake Perkins hit into a fielder’s choice as Guevara was tagged out in a rundown, but Fisher advanced to third. Luke Outman then attempted a squeeze bunt that was caught by the Sequoia catcher, who collided with the pitcher. Confusion ensued as Fisher scampered home and Tristan Hofmann blazed a trail from first all the way to home. HMB had taken a 6-4 lead. The first 2 Sequoia batters reached base so Half Moon Bay went to David Fisher to close. Fisher struck out the first 2 batters he faced, and got a pop out to end the game to earn the save. Lewis got the win in relief. Half Moon Bay improves to (19-7, 9-4). The Cougars travel to Sequoia Thursday for the final game of the regular season.
