Your Lady Cougars ended the 2018-2019 Peninsula Athletic League with a 44-32 home win over Terra Nova HS of Pacifica. The evening was a double dipper as it not only was a Friday night rivarly game but was the last home game for Seniors Mailie Bowers, Abby Urban, Casey Co, and Fernanda Hernandez.
With a large crowd on hand, your seniors (who all started) came out roaring holding Terra Nova to only one field goal in the first 8 minutes of play. From there the game began unfolding like the first league match up where your Lady Cougars and Terra Nova Tigers exchanged baskets and defenisve stops. Unlike the first meeting when your Lady Cougars had a 10 point lead going into the fourth only to eventually loose the game in overtime; they stuck together, rebounded the ball, and closed the door for good to the end the third quarter 36-22.
Seven different Lady Cougars scored with the balance attack being led by senior Mailie Bowers’ 13 points, sophomore Genevieve Belmonte’s 7 points, freshmen Abby Kennedy’s 6 points, junior Bella Dioli and sophomore Maya Rippbergers’ scored 5 points a piece, freshman Sierra Young’s 4, and seniors Abby Urban and Fernanda Hernandez both chipped in 2 points.
With the win, your Lady Cougars finish PAL-North play at 8-4 and 3rd in league. This is the 7th consective year they have finished in the top half of the PAL North Division. Up next is the Central Coast Section Division IV Tournament.
