The HMB Boys continued their undefeated run through the PAL North winning over Westmoor 69-45 to sit atop the standings at 10-0 (17-5 overall). They play Friday night at Jefferson, to try to seal the League Title with only a final game remaining against rival Terra Nova February 14th.

The Cougars made their first 5 shots including buckets off of two steals to take an early lead while Westmoor made some tough shots to stay in touch. Highlights in the early going were the first two of eventually four iterations of the same basic slip screen play featuring Ben McKnight back cutting his defender and Mykola Ediger whistling assists at various arm angles and often in small windows for easy layups – beautiful basketball.

Westmoor hung tough including 3s from Cote and Bermudez. Meanwhile, HMB did hard work especially on the offensive glass in the first half with Lukas Meighen getting 4 (8 total and 5 offensive for the game) and then later Owen Wooliever collecting 3 (6 total and 3 offensive). The first half ended 40-24 with a McKnight steal and assist to Mykola for a fast break dunk, a Sean Ediger assist to Mykola for an “and one,” and finally a three rattled in by Drew Dorwin just after being subbed in for shooting.

Mykola was efficient and dominant scoring 27 points on 10 of 15, along with 9 assists, 4 rebounds and scored 15 of HMB’s 40 points in the first half. He added 12 more points in the third to extend the lead to 30+. McKnight scored 10 on 5 of 7 shooting and added 5 rebounds, and Sean Ediger added 9 more (4 of 6) with 4 steals. The lead briefly eclipsed 40 points in the fourth quarter and the game ended at 69-45.
