The Half Moon Bay High Varsity Girls Volleyball team played Menlo Atherton on Tuesday night at the Cougars gym in a five-set standoff. The Cougars set the tone for a competitive match fighting hard to win the first set: 25-21. M-A came back to take the next two sets: 25-11 and 25-19. HMB gave it everything they had in the fourth, upsetting M-A 25-23, but ultimately fell to the Bears in the final set, 15-3.
Sierra Hamilton led the Cougar offense with 13 kills, followed by McKenzie Mell with 10 and Hallie Beier with eight. Sophie Barger completed 25 assists. Alex Hosilyk had 16 digs.
Despite a tough loss to the Bears, the Cougars raised just over $2,000 for breast cancer research at Dig Pink Night. Half Moon Bay plays their last home game of the season vs. Woodside on Thursday, October 18, which is also Senior Night at the Cougar gym.
