Your Half Moon Bay Lady Cougars are moving in the right direction defensively as they posted back to back nights with high energy defense fueling their play. However tonight, they fell short 39-37 in what was an entertaining back and forth game.

The Lady Cougar defense unofficially forced over 24 turnovers which created many opportunities to get the win. Down 10 with 2:13 left (39-29), they cut the lead to 2 points with back to back 3’s from Genevieve Belmonte (SO) and a pair of free throws by Mailie Bowers (SR). With 1:15 left, the score was 39-37. During the next 1:15, they created two steals that were unable to be converted for lay-ups and gave up a crucial offensive rebound during a Windsor free throw.

The preseason can be summarized by Eric Reveno current Georgia Tech Assistant Coach and former University of Portland Head Coach; “As a coach, you are constantly recalibrating and fine tuning to fit the current year’s personnel … in search of the optimal path to be the best team you can be. However, the challenge is recognizing you may be on the perfect path, just not as far along as you would like.” This group of Lady Cougars are moving closer and closer to that point where their youth will now be experience.

League play starts on Tuesday, January 8th with a home match up verses Oceana HS. JV’s start at 4pm and Varsity at 5:30pm.
