The Cougar JV Girls Volleyball team traveled to Scotts Valley to take on the Scotts Valley Falcons on a hot, muggy day for the first pre-season game of the year.

The team came out swinging in the first set with Meagan Mitchell serving the team to a 9-0 start before the Falcons scored their first point. The set continued with the Cougars putting up a strong defense and attacking with a dynamic offense including another long run of serving from Jasmine Standez. The set concluded with a decisive 25-7 final score.

The second set saw a renewed Falcon team that battled well in the first half of the set, at one point leading the Cougars by 3. But the Cougars persevered with solid defense and a persistent offense and eventually took the lead for good, finishing the set at 25-17 to sweep the Falcons.

Standouts on the team including Mitchell and Standez were Joey Vetrone with some excellent setting, Conner Black with some seriously highlight-reel quality defensive saves, and Mayah Johnson with some great kills.

The JV Cougars next face off against Pacific Bay on Wednesday, 9/4 at home.
