The Half Moon Bay High School Girls Varsity Volleyball team fell in a disappointing loss to the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs in round one of the CCS playoffs Wednesday night. The Cougars started the match strong and fought for every point nearly taking the first set; but, they ultimately fell in three: 26-24, 25-13, and 25-16. That’s a wrap for HMB High School volleyball this season. See you in 2018!

The Cougars came out on top in a close battle vs the Aragon Dons. Gavin Tomberlin threw two touchdown passes and Chase Hofmann had a long run for a touchdown. Behind a tough defensive effort the Cougars broke the Dons winning streak.

The Half Moon Bay Varsity Volleyball team faced Terra Nova on Thursday night at the Tiger gym in Pacifica. In their final league game of the season, the Cougars played their hearts out, but fell in three sets: 25-22, 25-19, and 25-23. McKenzie Mell and Riley Donovan led the offense with 11 kills each. Siena Hinshelwood had five kills and four blocks. Hallie Beier and Sierra Hamilton also had several great offensive and defensive touches at the net. Sophie Barger had 19 assists and returned some tough digs in the back row along with Gabi Silverman. Kendall Mansukhani had a strong serving night and two aces. Alex Hosilyk had 16 digs and 21 serve receives.

Game Recap

The Half Moon Bay High School Girls Varsity Volleyball team faced the San Mateo Bearcats Tuesday night in their final home game of the season, where graduating seniors Yohana Conde, Riley Donovan, Siena Hinshelwood, and Ashley Sheehy were also recognized for their individual contributions to the team. Despite a strong start that found HMB and San Mateo rallying point for point, the lady Cougars lost the first set 25-23. Donovan led the Cougars offense with 11 kills in the second set, taking it 26-24. The San Mateo offense fired up in the third and fourth sets, however, taking both wins 25-20 and 25-19. Donovan had 16 kills for the night, followed by McKenzie Mell with 12 and Hinshelwood with 8. Sophie Barger completed 30 assists. Both Sheehy and Conde had strong serving games, each scoring aces. Alex Hosilyk had 19 digs and a season high of 40 serve receives. The lady Cougars play their final league game at Terra Nova on Thursday.

Cougars lose their first game of the PAL Tournament. Freshman Keith Shuttle led the scoring with 2 goals, his first in a varsity game. Nate Feix, Liam Dempsey-Frank, and Andre Castro-Santos all scored one goal each. The Cougars will play Burlingame on Thursday at Menlo School.

Game Recap

Half Moon Bay Girls Varsity Volleyball rallied for the win Monday night in a non-league match up against South San Francisco High School, defeating the Warriors in three sets: 25-23, 25-20, 25-22. The Cougars played a consistent and cohesive game that brought out the best in every player. Siena Hinshelwood led the offense with eight kills and scored seven aces. Kendall Mansukhani had 16 assists and two aces. Alex Hosilyk anchored the back row with 27 serve receives and 11 digs and scored two aces. The Cougars play their final league home game versus San Mateo on Tuesday, October 24, which is also Senior Night. Go Cougars!
